Pipe lines are not build by using shapefiles in WaterGems

I have shapefiles for the model, When opened in GIS the whole model is available, and when tried building the model with shapefiles in model builder pipelines is missing. Can anyone guide me through it? I would be glad.

  • Hello,

This link goes through the steps for using ModelBuilder: Importing External Data using ModelBuilder. It uses shapefiles and WaterGEMS as the example, so it should be a good fit to understand the steps.

There are a couple of key things of note. In the step "Specify Spatial and Connectivity Options," make sure to check the boxes to create a node if none is present and to check the box related to the tolerance. This is important because pipes in a WaterGEMS model require a node at the start and stop nodes. If there are none already present in the model and these items are unchecked, the pipe will not be added to the model. You will see a message to this effect when you try to build the model at the end of the process.

In addition, for the step "Specify Field Mappings for each table," make sure that the key field is a unique value in your shapefile. If you happen to choose a key field that is not unique, this can lead to seeing fewer pipes in the model after building it. If the key field is not unique, Instead of creating a new pipe, an existing pipe will be updated instead of created, as the key field value is already being used.

The link above has additional information on this and other steps in ModelBuilder. If this doesn't happen, a review of the warnings and errors after building the model would be the next place to start.

    Regards,

    Scott
