I am modeling a water distribution network for a town. Currently the town only has one pump station (with three pumps, all designed to deliver 500 gpm each, total of 1500 gpm). The pumps are drawing water from a nearby water tower (from a different town). Can someone show me how exactly do I draw my pumps and connect it to the tank, I am a little confused as to how the configuration should look like. I know how to assign pumps curves, it is the layout that I am having trouble understanding.
is there something wrong with this set up?
The problem is that the suction side of the pump is not connected to anything. There needs to be a boundary condition (tank or reservoir) on the upstream side of a pump in order for the model to work correctly.
In your initial description, it sounded like your pumps pull water from a tank, which would indicate that pipes would connect between the pump suction side and the tank like this:

Thanks that was helpful. If my pumps are running with VFD's what are the steps required to model this?
Hello,
You can set the "Is Variable Speed?" in the pump properties to "True" and setup your pump as a Variable Speed Type pump. You can have either a Fixed Flow, Target Head or a Pattern based VSP type. See the below article for details on how you can set it up;

Hope this helps.
