Is there a way I can input the Russian Formula in calculating the flows in CivilStorm?

Formula:

qr = ZmidA1.2F / tr1.2n-0.1
A =q20 20n(1 + ln(P) / ln(mr))γ
  • Hello Rolando,

    The best option would be to use User Data Extensions. You can try using a formula based User Data Extension, if you have the available fields to do the calculation.

  • Hi Scott,
    Do you have an example using the formula based user data extension. Attached please find the excel showing the result comparison between the Russian formula and the civilstorm by adjusting the coefficient for the catchment calculation. I created an IDF curve using the Russian formula in order to get the result close enough. If possible can you help me to calculate this Zone 1 so I can continue the rest of the Zone. I can email you the Civilstorm file that I created if you need it.
    Thanks,
    Rolando

  • Hi Scott ,
    I reply to you this email but I forgot to mention about the conduit sized to run at 70% depth of flow in pipe. I tried using the  Design Constraints by inputing the 70% on the percentage full but I am getting the same HGL results between the 100% and 70%. Is there another way to calculate the conduit pipe with a 70% flowing full aside from this design constraints dialog box.
    Thanks,
    Rolando

  • Hello Rolando,

    The wiki has an example of what you would do. In short, you can use existing properties (or even other User Data Extensions) along with arithmetic properties (multiplication, square root, etc.) to generate results that might not be reported by the product.

    As mentioned in the service request we previously had on the topic, this cannot replace the existing IDF equations. This only works to generated results for element type. While you might be able to use this to generated a flow result at a catchment, this could not be used to replace the runoff from a catchment, for instance. If you are trying to generate runoff based on an IDF curve equation not included in CivilStorm, your best bet would be to create an User Defined IDF Table based on that equation.

  • Hello Rolando,

    I assume you are using the automated design feature for the GVF-Rational solver. If so, the default design constraints are the best option, though you can model local design constraints as well. See this link for more info.

    The conduit could run at a higher capacity still. You would see a user notification in cases where the capacity may be higher than the part-full percentage you are using.
