Running 2 pumps in parallel

Good Morning Everyone,

I am a bit new to WaterCAD. I am trying to model 2 lift station pumps with different curves running parallel and joining together before tie in into a Force main. The model is attached.

I am not sure how much data to input in the model. I have 2 reservoirs and 2 pumps. The elevations in the reservoir and the pump are the same which is the bottom of the lift station! There are also junctions with elevations. In the pump definitions, I added the pump curves that I got from the manufacturer. The pump definition type is multiple point.

Again, I don't know if this is the right way to model. What i know is that I have to run different scenarios both pumps on and then each one alone and see if they fight each other. Also I have negative pressure in system.MG-1 Pump out- Runout.zip

Appreciate the help!

Thank you

  • Hello Mack,

The model setup looks good and the model computes without any issues. As long as the pump definition and elevations, as well as the pipe diameters, the results should be accurate as well.

If you want a reference for how pumps work in WaterCAD and other OpenFlows products, see this link: How are pumps handled in each OpenFlows product?

Strictly speaking the check valves are not necessary. Pumps in WaterCAD have built in check valves to stop reverse flow. Having the check valves in place does not really impact the hydraulic analysis in this case. However, if you have any plans to run a transient analysis, the check valves would be used there.

    Regards,

    Scott
