Integrating StormCAD into MicroStation Connect

I just loaded up StormCAD Update 3 (10.3.4.53).  I need a little assistance getting it integrated with MSCE Update 15 (10.15.02.011).

We are running MSV8i & MSCE using a shared workspace on a network.  The switches in the program icons appear a little different than those for V8i - for good reason.  Can someone tell me which switches are pointing where?  Thanks.

  • Hi Ray,

We just recently released the first version of StormCAD to have MicroStation CONNECT Edition integration enabled, so the below documentation is not quite up to date yet:

Loading Hydraulics and Hydrology products into a custom MicroStation workspace

    Troubleshooting MicroStation integration

I am consulting with our development team to answer your question. We will get back to you soon.

In the meantime, are you aware of our OpenRoads Designer? It is based on MicroStation CONNECT Edition and has all of the hydraulic modeling and calculations functionality of StormCAD built in to it.

Also there is functionality in the Standalone version of StormCAD that may help: CAD Functionality in Standalone as an Alternative to AutoCAD or MicroStation Integration

  • Hello Ray,

We have updated this link to include information on loading OpenFlows products into a custom workspace: Loading Hydraulics and Hydrology products into a custom workspace.

The workflow is similar to the old methodology in that you will edit your custom workspace CFG file to include code from the StormCAD.cfg file. Once you have done that, you should see StormCAD functionality in your custom workspace.

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks for the update.  I applied the changes from the updated link but I am still not having any luck.

We currently use a separate custom CFG file that contains our Hydrology software config variables to point to their respective Hydro software and version of MSV8i.  In the past it has worked very well at integrating the software while allowing us to use our custom workspaces on the network.  We use the -ws command line switch in our icon targets followed by custom variables found in the custom CFG file.

We were successful with getting the latest version of StormCAD to run in MSV8i with this setup but getting it to run in MSCE still evades us.  Below is a screenshot of a portion of our CFG file using our current workflow methods.  Perhaps a fresh set of eyes could point out why the CONNECT version doesnt work?

    Any suggestions would be welcomed!

    Thanks,

  • Hello Ray,

The code looks a little different in my installation. I was able to get it to work in an example workspace. To do this, I browsed to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\Configuration\WorkSpaces\OpenFlows\Worksets and opened the CFG for the OpenFlows product. I selected everything in the file and copied it.

Next, I browsed to the location for the workspace being used in MicroStation CONNECT Edition and opened it. I went to the bottom of the page and just pasted the OpenFlows code. After saving, I opened MicroStation and was able to see my OpenFlows ribbon items being available.

    Regards,
