alternative and senario in watergems

hello

I create Physical alternative named "Physical  child "and Active Topology alternative named "Active Topology child" in Water GEMS in my child senario. when  I add a PRV to my child senario it spilt the pipe in child senario.

In base senario the prv is inactive and it's good but because of spilt pipe in base senario i confront error of pipe.

Is it any solution to add PRV in child senario and have no effect on the base scenario(not spilit pipe , not active PRV)?

In short, I will add PRV  to the project without Spilit pipes in the base scenario

In the other word i want wjen i add PRV4 in child senario i haven't spilit pipe (p-7(1) and p-7(2)) in base senario that show in below picture

thanks

  • Hello Ehsan,

    Try adding a parallel pipe connecting the same points and add the PRV on that point. In the child scenario make this pipe and PRV "active" and the original "inactive". In the base scenario make the original pipe "active" and the parallel pipe with PRV as "inactive".

    In child scenario your connection should be like this;

    Notice that original pipe P-1 is greyed out / inactive in this scenario

    For the base scenario your setup would look like this;

    Notice that the parallel pipe with PRV is now inactive.

    For more details on controlling active topology see this article: Active Topology Management

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you for your response

    It is a good solution and I use it but I hope we have a better and faster solution. because in each case we must adjust dimeter, material, hazen wiliam and extra. Is that any solution to duplicate a pipe or create fast parallel pipe? or other solutions

    thanks

  • In the approach you followed earlier, what happens is that since the PRV is inactive the upstream and downstream conduits lose connectivity since they both have an inactive node at their ends. So even if they are active, the WaterGEMS engine will give an error trying to compute for these pipes since the software requires any pipe to have both its nodes to be active and connected to a source for analysis.

    This article provides more details: Error validating or computing model: "Pipe references deleted or inactive node"

    Such loops or parallel pipes often has to be done during analysis to test different conditions. It helps you model without disturbing the original network pipes and you can still test different conditions.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Ehsan,

    Here is a workflow you can use to create a pipe with the same properties:

    1. Right-click on the pipe you want to duplicate and choose Create Prototype
    2. Layout your new pipe
    3. Open View > Prototypes and delete the prototype.

    Best regards,

    Rob.
