It could be because the shapefile contains multi-feature data types which currently are not supported by ModelBuilder. Try to create a copy of the shapefile in QGIS and then use that file in ModelBuilder. Ensure that the supporting files are also present where this shapefile is stored. You can also try the troubleshooting steps provided in this article;
