Catchment Width higher value

Greetings,

This is Ganesh, currently i am working in a Urban drainage project.

I am using EPASWMM Runoff method in which i am facing issue in one catchment(refer below properties in image). Actual Width of this catchment is 349 meters but the model is not simulating with this value. If we are going with lesser catchment width value, then the model is simulating results. what could be the possible reason for this, please check and revert back.

  • Hello Ganesh,

In the model you have uploaded the said catchment is set to inactive, even if it is active same Not converging % in the calculation summary is observed along with flow continuity error.

About Characteristic width, no specific range of values is mentioned in the SWMM user manual, it is specified as below.

An initial estimate of the characteristic width is given by the subcatchment area divided by the average maximum overland flow length. The maximum overland flow length is the length of the flow path from the furthest drainage point of the subcatchment before the flow becomes channelized. Maximum lengths from several different possible flow paths should be averaged. These paths should reflect slow flow, such as over pervious surfaces, more than rapid flow over pavement, for example. Adjustments should be made to the width parameter to produce good fits to measured runoff hydrographs.

If you look at calculation summary > Report Tab > Analysis options, you will some elements are listed which are increasing error in the model seen as below.

Here are troubleshooting steps to follow for your reference, please go through it.

  • Hi Sushma,

    Thank you for your support.

Actually the problem is with the files present within the same folder, after saving the model in a new folder it works perfectly.

sorry for the delayed response, due to submission urgency forgot to reply here.
