Alternating two pumps in WaterCADV8XM

I am working on a drinking water piping system, where I have a Tank which is controlled by two pumps. I set the options as when the Tank level drops below 465 ft, pump 1 should start running and will shut off when the tank level raises to 470 ft. And when the tank level drops below 460 ft, pump 2 should start running and it will shutoff when the tank level raises to 470ft. When I run my model (EPS run), pump 1 starts running when the tank level goes below 465 ft, but the tank level never reaches below 460 ft, so that pump 2 should come on. Whats happening is pump 1 is the only one thats running and filling up the tank, and pump 2 never gets a chance to run. What I was simulating is to make both pumps run. Is there any control in WaterCad V8XM that makes two pumps run alternating. I mean like pump 1 runs one cycle, and then pump 2 runs one cycle, then pump 1 second cycle, and pump 2 second cycle and so on. ??

  • Hello,

There is no direct way to do this, but if you're creative, you may find a way. For example, you could set up your controls such that when Pump A turns on, it also changes the status of a 'dummy' pipe to closed. The condition to turn it on would check if the status of the pipe is open. If it's closed, then turn pump B on and switch the pipe status to open.  =)
