Designing rising main in watergems.

Hi, I have nearly 219 villages in which I have to supply only clear water to the tanks from a WTP, how do I design the network of such work. Previously I have modelled distribution networks with one tank in a village but I am unable to do it with the rising main network. Please help!

  • Hello Danish,

Are you supplying to multiple ESR's for the 219 villages from the WTP? Based on your demands you have to calculate the ESR capacities. This will be done either by predefined zones to which the ESR's are supplying or by demarcating DMA's and pressure zones for effective distribution. Once the ESR flows for the simulation duration (E.g. 24 hours) are known, you would have to do rising main calculations accounting for frictional and minor losses which would also go into calculating the pumping requirement (flow and head) at the pump station of WTP.

If you are working on projects in India, I would suggest to go through the standard references such as the CPHEEO Manual on Water Supply and Treatment for designing rising mains and the design considerations for it.
