TCV model builder import issue

I have imported shapefiles into model builder and set the Status initial of the TCV layer to reflect if valves are open or closed but in the import they have all come in as 'Active'. See screen grab below.

Can someone please help as to why this has not imported correctly.

Thanks

  • Hello Emma,

There are three different valves possible for the Status (Initial) field for a TCV (and for most valve types). "Active" means that the valve is set to throttle on the first time step, "Inactive" means that the valves is fully open and will not throttle, and "Closed" means that it is closed. I believe that "Active" is the default setting for a valve when it is first added to a model.

What is the valve in the shapefile for initial setting? It is is something like "Open" instead of "Inactive" (meaning fully open and not throttling), you may want to change the value in the shapefile. However, it "Open" indicates that the TCV is expected to throttle, then in initial status of Active may be appropriate.

More information on the TCV status and how headlosses are calculated in them, see this link: How headloss is calculated based on the different Status (Initial) settings for a TCV.

    Regards,

    Scott

  • Yes the values in the original shapefile are either Open or Closed but all valves have come in under the 'Active' setting
