SewerGEMS Model Integration

Question

Hello everyone. I have developed a simulation project of a drainage network of a site counting also the launch channel at the end of the conduits. Through SewerGEMS I created several profiles, different simulation scenarios and symbologies to facilitate my work. Currently I have been trying to bring this project into Openflows FLOOD to generate a 3D visualization. However, following this lesson, during the integration step I got the error below. I tried to make some changes to the original project, such as the simulation model, among other things, but it still results in the same error. What can I do to prevent this from happening?

 What is your SewerGEMS and FLOOD version number? Some information is available here , but version compatibility could be a factor (I have asked my colleague for confirmation).

Luis, I can indeed confirm that models saved in 10.03.04.53 will not currently integrate with the latest version of FLOOD. I have documented this in the related wiki article here . 
 We do not have a scheduled release date available for the next FLOOD version with support for newer SewerGEMS/CivilStorm model versions. 
 In the meantime, you may be able to open the model and re-save it in the older version, since it should still be in the same schema (10.03.XX.XX). Try installing SewerGEMS 10.03.03.44 (the previous version), open the model file and re-save (I recommend a save-as just in case). If you encounter an error, try deleting the .DWH file first or copy only the .STSW and .STSW.SQLITE files to a new folder first.

Luis, we looked at your model and discovered that it contains elements that are not compatible with FLOOD (e.g. headwalls, gutters, catchments). 
 With the current version of FLOOD (10.03.00.01), the way the FLOOD-SewerGEMS coupling tool works is that it is only possible to automatically connect 1D elements such as: 
 
 Manholes 
 Outfalls 
 Cross-sections 
 
 Catch-basins (inlets) are also connected between the 2D engine and the SWMM engine but are handled differently. They need to be exported (in SewerGEMS) as a shapefile and loaded in FLOOD so that it can use their locations in a tool found in &ldquo;Toolbox -> Urban Floods -> Inlets from Points&rdquo;. This is used to generate the 2D inlet file (which is set in the RunOff module -> Street inlet length) (see more here: Inlet Capture analysis in the 1D/2D modeling ). The model needs to be stripped of the catch-basins and saved without the catch basins to be able to be imported correctly in FLOOD. 
 If the SewerGEMS model has other types of 1D elements, they will be removed from the model, but possibly some of them will cause problems (most likely that is what is happening in this case). 
 Note that an upcoming SewerGEMS release will include built-in 2D capability (instead of having to use the FLOOD workflows) where things will work differently and much more automatic.

Hello Luis, 
 Annotations are a part of Element Symbology. This would be the top item in your screenshot. 
 One thing you could try is importing the database file into a new drawing in SewerGEMS and saving this as a new file. This will assure that no additional annotations (aside from the element label) is included. It would also remove the background layers seen in your screenshot. You can do this by opening SewerGEMS and going to File > Import > SewerGEMS database. Browse to the .stsw.sqlite file associated with the model. It will open the model in a new drawing. Save this and see if that works in FLOOD.

 Luis Souza said: 2) The second doubt, is that, as I said earlier that I worked separating contribution areas for each inlet, in this case, where there is DSM in the project, can the softaware already recognize by itself the areas that contribute to each manhole? Or do I have to input the areas I did earlier into SewerGEMS and tie them to each element?

If you want the hydrographs from catchments to be imported in Flood as well then you need to perform few extra steps to import catchment data, else the catchment polygons will be ignored by the FLOOD&rsquo;s CivilStorm/SewerGEMS model coupling tool. Only inflows directly assigned to the nodes will be transported to FLOOD. See below article for more details.

Hello Luis, 
 It sounds like you would like to use your SewerGEMS model&rsquo;s catchments for the hydrology / runoff calculations. If so, the precipitation will be taken after importing the SWMM file, exported by SewerGEMS. Note that the catchment element will only be retained when exporting the model to the EPA SWMM (.inp) format if the catchment in the original model was set to use the runoff method "EPA-SWMM Runoff". See more here . 
 Note that the training workbook shows a case where the hydrology is computed by the 2D engine with a &ldquo;Rain-on-grid&rdquo; simulation. The runoff in that exercise will be calculated from the 2D and there is no catchment areas delineated in that example.

Hi Luis, 
 If the SewerGEMS model contains catchments configured with the EPA-SWMM runoff method, they will automatically import into FLOOD and you can see the event details by opening the INP file using FLOOD&rsquo;s text reader. 
 We do not currently have a workshop that covers FLOOD workflow with catchments for hydrology, but the following article has the steps to do the import: How to run FLOOD using inflow Hydrographs from Catchments modeled in CivilStorm/SewerGEMS
