WaterCAD results files not deleting when removing scenarios

Hi all,

I'm having problems with WaterCAD results files not deleting from my hard drive when I delete their host scenario in the model.

I'm trying to clean up the models to create space as my hard drive is at maximum however the file size of my modelling folders isn't reducing even though I'm significantly decreasing the number of scenarios I'm saving results for.

Wiping all the results and re-running the remaining scenarios is not an option as the scenarios take hours to days to run (Water Age & MSX with tiny timesteps).

I'm sure there's an obvious solution but I've tried searching the forums and wiki but didn't find an answer, can someone please tell me how to get WaterCAD to clean out the unused results files?

Thank You,

Ryan

  • Hello Ryan,

We have filed an enhancement for this request, reference number is # 974362. I am also creating a service request, so you will be notified when it will be implemented in future releases of the product.

  • Thanks Sushma,

This is what I ended up doing as I didn't have time to wait for a response when I posted. However in order to avoid accidentally deleting the wrong scenarios I had to manually look up and record the scenario ID's for dozens of scenarios. I then had to manually cross reference each result file against those scenarios to make sure it wasn't on the 'do not delete' list.

As I'm sure you can understand that was a very time consuming process.

I did find that link you shared before posting this but it was surprisingly unhelpful:
"If you use a lot of scenarios and do not need to keep results files for all of them, you can delete the output files then re-compute just the scenarios you want and re-save the model."

As I said before this is not a valid solution when scenarios take hours-days each to run.

  • Hello Ryan,

I am not sure how many scenarios you have deleted, but the output result files are saved as per scenario ID's separately for scenarios. You can delete these output files of deleted scenarios if they were few.

We will discuss internally and check if there is more of a direct method to achieve this apart from what is mentioned above.
