The network I am modeling already has the dma's setup and there are flowmeters at the beginning of these dma's. My question is how does one represent the flowmeter in the model?

Generally flow meters are not explicitly modeled, you can introduce minor losses if required ,so it can be modeled as a minor loss on a pipe.
However If you need to model a more complex flow vs. headloss relationship, use a GPV node element with GPV headloss curve. Its up to you how to consider that in the model.

We usually have flow meters (magnetic flow meters) without any significant headloss, but we also model these using GPV elements by assigning a "flat" headloss curve with almost no headloss (0.01m for example). By modeling them as GPV elements we can assign both flow & pressure scada elements to these GPV elements to have these conveniently at the same location as the real meter.
