Surge Tank or Hydroneumatic Tank

Dear Bentley Team,

I have to provide Bladder Surge Tank due to pump trip. I have developed my model and provide Hydroneumatic Tank. I am still getting vapors pockets in my system, not sure about the result. I would really appreciate if someone review my model and give suggestion for improving results.

Thanks & Regards,

Syed

  • Hello Syed,

There are a couple things you will want to look into. First, there is a user notification about the bladder filling the hydropneumatic tank. This indicates that the tank may be empty and not able to provide protection. See the link Sushma provided for more information on this message and adjustments you can make to the hydropneumatic tank properties to help with this.

Another possible reason is the placement of the hydropneumatic tank. They hydropneumatic tank is about 3000 meters from the pump. So after the pump shuts down, the downsurge caused by this would travel this distance before the tank could react to this. You will notice that there are not negative pressures downstream of the tank. The best way to see this is by looking at the profile animation in the Transient Results Viewer.

It is possible that by placing the hydropneumatic tank close to the pump, it will be able to help with the negative pressures between the pump and the tank. You may want to test a case like this to see how the system reacts.

    Regards,

    Scott
