Pipes updated in model builder coming into model as inactive.

Hi,

I am running an update on my model through model builder. I am using an updated pipe shapefile to add new pipes, update any attributes in existing, and remove any abandoned mains. The model builder works correctly and tells me how many were added, updated, or deleted. The problem is it seems the pipes that were added or updated are coming into the model as inactive.

I do not have the attribute of Is active? mapped to anything in the model builder, so I assumed they would all come in active. The model I am working with has over 80,000 pipes so it would be very difficult to track down and edit each instance. Additionally, when I want to do updates in the future I would not want to have to do that manual process each time.

I can map the isactive attribute when doing model builder, we currently have it as yes/no. In WaterGEMS I believe the field is true/false. Do we need to update our attribute to accommodate that?

Thanks,

Lizzy Cullen

  • In Modelbuilder there is a tab in which you specify which scenario is to be updated with the modelbuilder import. Since pipes are present in all scenarios (but can be active or inactive depending on the alternatives corresponding to each scenario), they are imported for all scenarios. What could happen is that you import them to a child scenario of the base scenario, if that child scenario has a different active topology alternative than the base scenario, the pipes might be inactive in the base scenario (and any additional child scenarios which differ on active topology from the child scenario you imported the modelbuilder changes to). If the new elements should be active in most scenarios I always try to import new elements into the base scenario (and corresponding base active topology alternative), so they start as active in all child scenarios from that base scenario.

  • Hi Lizzy Cullen,

The explanation given by Joeri Legierse which is the issue I believe you are seeing is explained in more detail in this Wiki article - Elements seemingly changing to default settings, zero status, inactive
