Open Channel Flow hydraulic Jump Calculator -

In open Channel flow analysis will sewer Gems software calculates automatically the Hydraulic Jump height and length when a drop is given in the bed of the channel. Would this jump reflects in the hydraulic Grade Line ? Kindly clarify as early as possible. Thank you and best regards

  • Hello,

Yes, the four solvers available in SewerGEMS will account for the dynamics of the transition from supercritical to subcritical flow. With the GVF-Convex and GVF-Rational solvers, you will clearly see a jump in the hydraulic grade in profile view when such a condition occurs. You can see an example of this in the below screenshot and in this article.

With the Implicit or Explicit dynamic solvers, the impact from this transition is also accounted for and you would see it in the hydraulic grade, though the exact way that it appears in profile view may look a bit different. You may need to use a smaller computation distance (in the calculation options) and choose "detailed" as the output type in the conduit properties.
