Dears,
I notice that whenever I attach or overlay an X-ref and save my model inside SewerCAD update 4 running within C3D 2023 (issue may replicate in other Haested product line and will be able to note that as we proceed with other project wet services models), the next time I open the model it shows error messages and suggest to recover the file which is of no use. Also if the recover prompt is discarded and the model is opened, the network is visible but not selectable. All data is still there in the database and can be seen in the Flex tables, but engineer cannot even select a model element.
If engineer manages to remove the x-ref (not straight forward as you may need to try couple of times while receiving fatal error and whole software crashes or need to try open the CAD version from the C3D only software without the SewerCAD integration and remove the X-ref from there and save and close and open and save and close a couple of times) to then restore the file and model functionality.
This behavior also repeats whenever opening models built with earlier versions, so for instance I have a laptop that still runs the last CONNECT Update 3 version and i open the earlier models fine, but when i try to open the same model using the SewerCAD update 4 running within C3D 2023 it also shows a similar behavior.
Any clue one what is happening here?
Thanks
Hello,
I believe I may be able to reproduce this issue but I would like to confirm with you the specific error messages that are appearing.
Using SewerCAD for Civil 3D 2022 (I also confirmed in regular AutoCAD 2022), I attached a different DWG file as an XREF, to one of the SewerCAD sample files. I then saved and reopened it and noticed the following message:
When choosing "No", the model appears to open but when I try to zoom extents, it crashes with this fatal error:
Is this the same issue you are seeing?
A workaround in the meantime would be to use the Standalone version with a DXF version of the xref added as a background layer. See: CAD Functionality in Standalone as an Alternative to AutoCAD or MicroStation Integration

Yes. Same issue.
Thanks for confirming. Are you able to work around this issue with the Standalone solution suggested in my previous reply? If your work progress is stuck because of this issue, please contact me by private message (hover over my name and choose the private message option) to provide your company information and company email, or submit a Service Request and reference this forum post.
Hi Jesse, My work around is that for earlier completed models, we just use earlier installs of the software with a CONNECT Update 3. If we want to develop the models further, We just save a copy and ensure it has no X-refs or overlays attached when saved. Same applies to new models we build directly in Connect Update 4, during the session we add the X-ref do all what we want, and detach it before we save. As a precaution, we keep a copy of the intact model before each work sprint incase we forgot and save with the X-ref.
Anyways, the standalone is functional, so once the model skeleton is built and no major changes happening, we actually default to working in the standalone
Hi,
Thanks for providing your contact information via private message. I have opened Service Request # 7001587190 and linked it to bug # 1183971. Our developers will investigate this issue to be fixed in a future release.
I have also documented this here: Unable to reopen model in AutoCAD integrated mode after attaching XREF
