How Can I compute program the software automatically selecting diameter? Though I provided demand on the program but the result showing same diameter all the pipe.

I have prepared model by importing dxf file and also contour by TRex . All junctions are correct elevation showing. but diameter are 150mm all the pipe. I would like to compute the program the software automatically selecting diameter. Please help me out.

  • Hello Sanjay,

Please note that 150mm is the default diameter size in WaterGEMS/WaterCAD.

Back to the query, Do you want the software to do the designing of the pipe diameters automatically?

OpenFlows WaterGEMS product has a tool called Darwin Designer, which uses a genetic algorithm to help size pipes based on various design criteria. It allows the user to design pipes for an existing model either manually or, with efficient genetic algorithms, in a more automated fashion. It allows for multiple design candidates to be presented so the best possible solution to a given system can be found. Solutions can also be exported into a new scenario for use in an existing water system.

I request you to go through the - Using Darwin Designer to design pipes in WaterGEMS

I would recommend following the Quick Start Lessons on Designer (available in the WaterGEMS QuickStart.pdf file in your WaterGEMS installation folder) and taking at least the Designer part of the formal training available on learn.bentley.com. You can find a link and more learning resources here: Learning Resource Guide for new users of Bentley WaterGEMS and WaterCAD

It uses a genetic algorithm to attempt to optimize pipe sizes, but in some situations, it may not produce the best results, and your engineering judgment may need to be used to make further adjustments. Again, manual design by adjusting diameters and checking results is also an option, which may be easier than Darwin Designer, for smaller models.

If this is not satisfactory kindly reply.
