MSX [SOURCES] limitations

Hi,

The SETPOINT and CONCEN soureTypes are quite bugged in the latest version of WaterGEMS and CAD (10.04.00.108).

So far I had been able to function with workarounds to the bugs but now I've encountered a point I can't figure out a workaround for. I have a model setup that models Chlorine Bulk and Wall decay as well as THM formation. Within the network I need to simulate removal of the THM's at a certain location in the network.

I should be able to use CONCE to do this but unfortunately it completely ignores my CONCEN command line (i.e. if I have 0.2mg/L THM's coming into a node and I set that node to CONCEN 0.1, I should see 0.1mg/L coming out of that node but there is no change to the concentration from that node)

To quote the MSX Manual: "A CONCEN type source sets the concentration of the species in any external source infow (i.e., a negative demand) entering the node. The external infow must be established as part of the hydraulic specification of the network model."

A brief summary of the bugs I've found woth the [SOURCES] code so far and workarounds for simulating Chlorine dosing and boosting:

  • SETPOINT does not work at source reservoirs if it’s set lower than the global value. (WaterGEMS uses the global value instead).
  • CONCEN will always work at source reservoirs for values greater than 0.
  • Advise using CONCEN for WA (Water Age) by setting it to a starting value of 0.01.
  • If no dosing is specified at a source reservoir the model will assume the GLOBAL concentration, if specified.
  • CONCEN does NOT work on tanks or junctions in the network at all.
