How to properly model inlets in back yards in StormCAD

I have not been able to find information on how to properly model inlets in back yards. This will include slab inlets (4 sided) and drop inlets. I am not sure how to properly set the structures on grade and connect with gutters (no defined channel between structures. What inlet manning's should I use.

I want to make sure I am able to accurately calculate depth and bypass flow. The inlets are not ditch inlets.

Can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

  • Hello Fredy,

The catch basin itself would likely be similar to any other catch basin modeling. You would want to choose an appropriate gutter shape for the gutter. This link has information on different gutter shapes: Gutter Shapes Explained.

For the Manning's n, you would pick a value appropriate for the material. The Engineering Library has some material types and Manning's values. You can also use an outside source to find a range that will work.

  • To add to Scott's response - it would be helpful if you could provide some illustrations or photos of what you are trying to model.

If it is not in a ditch/channel, but rather at a low point, it could be treated as in-sag.

The standard inlet types available in StormCAD are based on the HEC-22 standard which you can read more about in the Help and in our book Stormwater Conveyance Modeling and Design.
