How do I input my shapefiles and Digital Elevation in Sewergems Update 4 and align it with bingmap with the goal of simulating urban flooding?

    Please elaborate more on what you want to do with more details.

    What I sense is that I am trying to explain in following points -

    "I input my shapefiles"

    1. To develop a model from scratch using shapefiles, you can use a ModelBuilder tool in SewerGEMS.

    If you are using a source file like a shapefile when creating the model file you should make sure to turn on all of your snapping options, so the elements are connected in the source program and there aren't connectivity gaps. You should also make sure that you are laying out the elements in the correct order according to the WaterGEMS connectivity rules. This means that every pipe needs to have some type of node element attached at either end. Node elements include junctions, tanks, valves, reservoirs, and pumps.

    "Digital Elevation"

    2. The Terrain Extractor (TRex) tool can automatically assign elevations to any nodes based on the nearest elevations from a contour DXF, shapefile, LandXML file, or spot elevations. If you are working in WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, or HAMMER in the ArcGIS environment, there is the additional ability to assign elevation data based on TIN, DEM or Raster (such as TIF / TIFF) files. Nodes can include junction, hydrants, pumps, tanks, reservoirs, and valves.

  • im trying to add this shapefiles to my background to account for the elevations but its not showing in the map.  Im also looking for a way to input my digital elevation model which is in asc format

    This link has information on the different types of terrain models you can use. If you are using 2D Modeling, you will want to make sure the shapefiles you are using in the Surface Definition manager coincides with the terrain model location. If you need to change the scale or projection, you may need to do this in a GIS program. 

    Note that the Surface Definition manager only applies to 2D Modeling. If you want the shapefiles as actual background images, you would need to add them in the Background Layers manager. Surface Definitions are used to adjust the information on the terrain model when model 2D results. See the wiki on 2D Modeling for more information on this: 2D Modeling in SewerGEMS and CivilStorm.
