Pipe Size Design

I changed my 'Calculation Type" option from 'Analysis' to 'Design' but StormCad is not designing my pipe system and it keeps showing the default pipe size of 12-in.  I'm used to older StormCad versions where one click was all that was needed to run the design option. I tried using the Help tutorials but I can't find an answer to my question. I would greatly appreciate any help since I have over 250 structures in my model and the Design tool would be of great help in determining initial pipe sizes. Thanks much!

  • Roman,

First, you should set all conduits to be catalog conduits, choose the shape and material for each of them (you can global edit from the conduit flextable if you'd like) and then populate the Conduit Catalog with the pipe sizes that you want StormCAD to choose from (with the same shape/material). Be sure that the check box for "Available for design?" is checked.

If this does not help, please contact technical support .

  • Hi Jesse,

I would like stormcad to give me starting pipe sizes based on the design constraints (velocity, cover, etc.) I have set.  The Conduit Catalog gives me the option to enter one pipe size per conduit type.If I have to populate manually how is stormcad helping me design them?

  • Roman,

You can enter many different pipe sizes in the conduit catalog. For example, say you want your system to have circular concrete pipes, either 12 inch, 18 inch, 24 inch or 36 inch. You would first choose circular and concrete for all conduits in the model, leaving the size blank. Then you would define 4 entries in the conduit catalog, one for each size (12, 18, 24, 36). When you run design mode, StormCAD would then design the pipe sizes based on your constraints, choosing between either 12, 18, 24 or 36 inch diameters.

  • The idea with the conduit catalog is to populate it with all the different conduit types you wish to have available in that model. You can import a number of conduits at once from the Engineering Library to save time.

Also, if you always use the same conduits in every model, you could set up a 'template' (basically a blank project file at the moment, though the next StormCAD release will have a way to specify the 'template' or 'seed' file) with a conduit catalog populated with all the pipes you use, and then use that template each time you create a new model.
