WaterGEMS/CAD v8i - Managing Controls

It seems that the Control Manager in WaterGEMS only allows me to edit a single control at once and has no copy/paste/etc type of funcionality. I understand that this kind of editing might be difficult due to the complexities of linking from controls to various action/condition statements, but I am currently faced with having to modify a very large number of controls, where they are already defined within another model - so these kind of functions may be able to assist me greatly.

Is there a way (short of converting the model to EPANET and back again) to inport/export large numbers of control statements to/from another WaterGEMS model for manipulation by textfile or database editing? Also is there a way to delete a selection of controls at once or delete all controls to aqvoid having to remove them individually?

Regards,

Jack

  • Hello Jack,

It's technically possible to do this, using Modelbuilder. As you mentioned, there is some complexity to the relationship between conditions, actions and controls, which means this can be quite involved. Basically you would need to Sync-out (export) all the controls, conditions and actions to a spreadsheet or database, modify them, then import them back into the model.

We have an entry in our knowledgebase that explains a bit more on how to do this (search for Problem ID#: 44446). It is written for an older version of WaterGEMS, but should give you an idea of what's involved. Depending on how many controls you need to change, it may be easier to use filters, etc in the Controls dialog box and modify all controls from within WaterGEMS.
