Model Builder (Hammer v8i)

I'd like to take a .dxf file from AutoCAD and have the Model Builder in Hammer create a model of it (just the x, y, z coordinates of the pipe).

Can the Model Builder achieve this?  I'm unsuccessful as "the pipe start and/or stop node could not be found".

  • Thanks Mal.  I looked up that wiki link and it is using "ArcGIS Database Features" when initially prompted for the Data Source type.  Since I'm interested in the "CAD Files" Data Source type (so I can import either 3D AutoCAD polylines as a .dxf into Hammer), I've also selected "Create nodes if none found at pipe endpoint" and so far I've been unsuccessful in obtaining a good import.

If have one 3D polyline with multiple intermediate nodes, Model Builder coverts those intermediate nodes into bends when I desire each node to be junctions.

If I explode that one big 3D polyline in multiple 3D polylines, Model Builder will then only recognize the last 3D polyline.

Alternatively, I've made a quick AutoCAD pipe network of my polylines and import that into Hammer via the "Access" Data Source but that didn't work either.

  • Please see the below technote, which goes into detail on importing a CAD drawing (DXF file):

It looks like you may have found this already though. Modelbuilder will only place nodes at the ends of a polyline. It lools like your "3d polyline" is really just one single polyline, which is why the "nodes" are imported as bends. I'm not sure why you're having a problem when exploding it; we'd need more details on your workflow and would probably need to look at the files. So, I would suggest contacting technical support .
