Problem when using CAD data to generate network modell using WaterCAD V8i

When I use CAD file for modelling the network, Junction numbers are modelled very randomly which cause inconveniency to locate junctions in the model.  Do anyone help how can I manage Junction number ?  what precautions may I take to prepare CAD file which help me get more organised model in terms of  junction numbers ?

  • Ideally you would set a label for the junctions (and pipes, etc.) in the CAD file, but unfortunately DXF files (the CAD file format currently supported by ModelBuilder) aren't very good at storing attributes along with the lines and points.

There are a couple of things you can try:

    1. Lay your pipes and junctions out in order in the CAD program. They labels should keep the same order when you import into WaterCAD

    2. Use blocks/cells for your junctions and assign a label attribute to them. Then ModelBuilder can read these attributes when importing the CAD data. The problem with this is it is quite tedious, as you will have to manually type the labels in each time you layout a new junction in the CAD file - but at least you will have control over the labels.

Alternatively you could just leave the junction labels in random order. You can find them quite easily by typing CRTL-F then the junction label and ENTER.
