WaterCAD: Missing pipes when importing a shapefile by Model Builder

WaterCAD V8i (SelectSeries 1)

I try to import a shapefile with 3662 pipes by Model Builder. However, Model Bulder recognizes only 3292 pipes. In ArcMap all the pipes are present. I have no problems to import corresponding 3183 junctions. I have tried with several shapefiles (all of them originally exported from a different WaterCAD model) and the error occurs with all files (except one with only 33 pipes). What could be the reason? It is not a connectivity problem but it seems that Model Builder counts only part of the file.

  • Hello Raisa,

Make sure the key field you're using in Modelbuilder contains unique IDs. Having duplicate labels could explain why some pipes don't import. If you're not sure if your key field has unique IDs, you can choose "<label>" and unique labels will be generated automatically.

If this does not help, check the Modelbuilder summary for clues. Also, try adding the shapefile as a background layer (view > background layers) to see if those pipes show up. If there are problems with the geometry in the shapefile itself, WaterCAD may not be able to recognize and import them. You can use ArcGIS's "check geometry" and "repair geometry" ArcToolbox tools to see if this is the problem.

If this does not help, you should contact technical support by submitting a service ticket. You can include your shapefile and screenshots of your Modelbuilder setup.
