Pump ON and OFF at different levels in Bently Water CAD

I’m trying to run “pump 1” based on levels in a tank

 TWL in tank = 304.0 m

This is what is supposed to happen.  When the level drops to below 302.5, the pump 1 should turn on, and should turn off when level returns to 304.0 m

Currently, my control is written as follows:

IF Elevated Tank Hydraulic Grade <= 302.50 m Pump 1 Pump Status = On  ELSE Pump 1 Status = Off

But this  does not allow the pump to run between 302.5 and 304.0 m on the FILL cycle. When it is draining from 304.0 to 302.5, the pump 1 should NOT run, but during FILL cycle, it should run all the way to 304.0 m.

How can the code be written to let it fill back up to 304.0 m?

 Thanks!

 Marek

  • Hello Marek,

Your controls don't work because as soon as the level falls below 302.5 and the pump turns on, it immediately fills above 302.5, triggering the Else statement to turn it off. To see a typical example of the controls you're trying to use, please see the included Example1.wtg file, located in the "Samples" folder within the WaterCAD installation folder. Basically you'll need to create one control to turn the pump on and one to turn it off:

IF Elevated Tank Hydraulic Grade <= 302.50 m Pump 1 Pump Status = On

IF Elevated Tank Hydraulic Grade >= 304.00 m Pump 1 Pump Status = Off

Note that you can use the "Control Wizard" button in the Controls dialog in WaterCAD V8i to quickly create these types of controls:
