Hello,
I will be modeling storm systems in their entirety (storm piping (gravity and pressure), inlets, ponds, culverts, channels off all types, bypass structures, etc). Which program would be most beneficial to me? Does CivilStorm eliminate the need to get programs such as Flowmaster and Pondpack? Is there a benefit to having CivilStorm vs StormCad? Would I need CivilStorm (or stromcad) packaged with Flowmaster, culvertmaster, and Pondpak?
Thanks
It really depends on what kind of analysis you are doing. StormCAD does rational method peak flow hydrology while CivilStorm does dynamic flow routing of hydrographs. If you are studying a small area where only peak flow is of interest, then StormCAD should be adequate. If you are working on a large area where hydrogrph routing is significant, then CivilStorm (or SewerGEMS) is what you need.
If you are new to this kind of software, I encourage you to get training before you start and to analyze a small pilot area before building a large model.

Also, although CivilStorm can model ponds, PondPack has some pond design specific tools. So, if you need to focus on sizing new ponds, it might be better suited. If the ponds are existing or you need to have an all-inclusive model (in which trial and error can be used to size the ponds), CivilStorm might be better. Each program has its own unique strengths:
StormCAD: peak flow storm drainage design
PondPack: pond design and analysis
CivilStorm: fully dynamic routing analysis
FlowMaster/CulvertMaster: quick calculations and rating curves

Thanks. It sounds like CivilStorm is the way to go then. If you buy StormCad and have an analysis that the Rational Method is not suited for then you need to buy a whole seperate program it sounds like. You can still use hydrograph routing on small areas. It would be nice to have them all in one. A program like HydroCad has Rational and Hydrograph modelling but its conveyance routing routines are bad.
Thanks for the info. I am doing 50ac-100ac industrial site analysis at this time and its sounding like a package of CivilStorm / Pondpack / Flowmaster and Culvermaster might be the way to go.
