How to model pump trip and restart?

In Hammer V8i is there any way to model a pump trip/stop followed by a start?

thanks.

  • Hello Roadie,

Yes, there is. Select "Variable speed" as the transient pump type and you'll be able to use a pattern of time vs. speed for the pump. You can have the pump initially on, turn it off (relative speed of zero on the pattern) and then turn it back on later.

If you're unsure of how long it will take for the impeller speed to spin down from the emergency shut down, you could first compute the model using the "shut after time delay" transient pump type with a number entered in the "report period" field in the pump properties. Then, look near the bottom of the Transient Analysis Detailed Report (under the Report menu > Transient Analysis Reports) for a table containing the rotational speed of the pump over time. You could then use that information to develop the pattern for your trip+restart.

    Hope this helps.
