Hi,
I just started working with SewerGEMS v8i to design both water distribution and wastewater systems, and so far so good, but I do have some practical questions that I'd like to ask - I've skimmed through the forum for similar questions and couldn't find what I'm looking for.
So:
1) Is there any way to have conduit profiles / engineering profiles display cross sections of incoming pipes?
2) What are the best practices to deal with pipe overlapping / intersections when considering multiple independent systems, such as distribution network + sewage network + rain drainage network? It would be awesome to somehow quickly analyze if one or more pipes are conflicting with existing ones.
Thanks

Hello Goncalo Cardoso,
1) You can click the chart settings button in the upper-left corner, choose to export to DXF, then manually add in the lateral circles in another application such as MicroStation.
2) You may be interested in a project we're currently working on which will make this type of utility clash detection easier. It's currently called Bentley Subsurface Utilities.
In the meantime, perhaps you could export each utility to shapefiles with Z coordinates, then open them together in another application like ArcGIS for some type of intersection/clash detection. All of the Haestad products (such as WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS and StormCAD) can export pipes and nodes to shapefile using the export button in the upper left corner of the Flextables.
You can also export your Haestad product models to Bentley i-model format, then load them all in MicroStation. WaterGEMS, WaterCAD and HAMMER currently support i-model export and SewerCAD, SewerGEMS, CivilStorm and StormCAD will support this in the upcoming V8i SELECTseries 3 release. It may be a manual process to check for clashes, but there may be some tools or workflows that other contributors to this forum may know about.

You can use the i-models to do clash detection in MicroStation or Bentley Navigator using an add-on clash detection component. You should contact your Bentley Account Manager for details.

Hi Jesse,
are you able to tell us a little bit about Bentley Subsurface Utilities?
