I have an up coming project where our client has a model created in WaterGEM. At this moment, my company has WaterCAD only.
I understand that we'll have no problem opening the client's file. However, my concern is what will happen to the GIS IDs and data when the client open the model using WaterGEM after we modify it in WaterCAD. Will they be lost, or they only have to add GIS data for the new parts we add? If so how much work will it involve?
At this moment, I don't know which version of WaterGEM our client has. Ours is WaterCAD V8i Select 3.
Yoko
Hi Yoko,
When a WaterCAD model is open in WaterGEMS (or from one platform to another), you won't lose any hydraulic information including GIS IDs.
Regarding the versions, if you are on same or higher version, you won't have any problem opening up the file. Once you save, then older version product can't open up that file (meaning, if your client are on older version they need to update)
Thanks,
Thank you, Akshaya. The information is very helpful!
Just one clarification. The situation you mentioned (Model updated in new version not opening in older version), the same thing will happen between old and new WaterGEM, right? So even if our company decides to upgrade our WaterCAD to WaterGEM, if our client's WaterGEM is an older version, they can't open it after we altered the model?
That's correct, Yoko. The same thing will happen with WaterGEMS. Most of our products are like this. They are not forewards compatible, meaning that older versions of the sofware cannot open model files that were created in a more recent version, as Akshaya stated.

Mark
Thanks, Mark. Thank you both for timely help.
