controling pumps to work for 8 hours only in WaterCAD V8i

I am using WaterCAD V8i to design a water scheme with over 27000m pipe network and a treatment plant.

I intend to design the treatment plant to run for 8 hours.

I have done the demand pattern using time step extended pipe simulation.

How to i control the pumps to work for 8 hours only?

  • Hi Jasper,

    To control an element for certain time, you need to create a Time based control. There are two types of time based controls, Clock Time and Time from Start. Most of the time, Clock Time is used in WaterCAD/GEMS as it will allow one to change status/settings of an element from/at/to certain time. e.g. Turn pump from 9 AM to 3 PM.

    Controls can be created from Components > Controls.

    Few Examples:
    IF Clock Time >= 9 AM AND Clock Time <= 3 PM THEN Pump-1 Status = ON

    IF Clock Time >= 10 PM AND Tank-1 HGL < 428 ft THEN Pump-80 Status = ON
    IF Clock Time <= 3 AM AND Tank-1 HGL >420 ft THEN Pump-80 Status = OFF
    Note: if you combine the clock time like >10 PM and < 3AM, you will be creating an invalid/unreachable control.

    IF Clock Time >= 10 PM OR  Clock Time <= 3 AM  THEN Pump-80 Status = ON
    Note: this one is valid because it's using "OR" statement. If you use AND it will never trigger

    In  KB 59689, you will find a few more examples.
