Variable speed pump managed by fixed head in remote (from the pump) node in the network in WaterGEM

Dear colleagues,

When the remote junction (more than 10 km) manages VSP in WaterGEM it seems that it works instantaneously. Is it possible to understand how much is the time for which the changed pressure from the VSP will reach the fixed point. It is not a surge, where pressure wave moves with high velocity...
Is it Hammer the tool for answering that?

  • WaterGEMS essentially uses a quasi-steady solution so you won't see the changes during transition. This is a transient effect so you will need HAMMER to analyze it. For this long of a pipe, it will take about 10 sec for any change at the pump to be realized at the downstream end.
