Pattern (Demand )

Hi All, 

I am trying to create a scenario, in that, client requirement is to add fire demands at 6 location in the project site along with the Peak daily daily demand (PDD) flow. 

So, i added  fire demand (31.5 lps)  at selected 6 nodes in the network. but i was not able to get the fire flow pattern or user defined pattern. The pull down menu shows only the fixed pattern. the problem is,i am choosing the multiplication factor for PDD in the calculation option. while choosing this method ( mulitply all fixed demands by 1.5), fire flow demand are also multiplied by factor. i dint want that. i want only fixed demands to be multiplied and fire demands to be kept as such.

Previously i got these options in pattern (demand). but now i am not able find it and i dont know where it went wrong.   I am running the model in steady state analysis, version of SW is watergems v8i SS4

How can get the fire flow pattern and user defined pattern?

  • If I understand your question correctly, you should

    1. Create a new demand alternative for peak demand.

    2. Go to Demand control center and globally multiply the demand by 1.5.

    3, After you, have done this create a new demand alternative for each fire and add in the fire flow for that alternative.

    I'm assuming that you are not having all 6 fires simultaneously and a typical system is not designed for that condition. In the unlikely case where you are designing for 6 simultaneous fires, then you only need to create one new fire demand alternative.

    In my case, 6 fire events are simultaneous. I want to give peak factor (1.5) in calculation center. if i get three different pattern like, fixed, fire flow and user defined then i will choose the option of fixed only to be multiplied by peak factor. other demands will not be multiplied. so that fire flow will be kept as such. I need to get 3 options in the pull down menu in pattern (demand). this is what i am not able to get.

    Try this...

    1. Click on Components > Patterns

    2. Right click on Hydraulic folder and select 'New' to add a new Hydraulic Pattern

    3. Name the new pattern "Fire Flow" and enter the pattern details

    4. Repeat for any other patterns you need.

    Now when you go back to a junction and edit demands, you will see the other patterns available in the drop down list.

    Thanks for the idea. here the i am doing fire flow analysis in steady state. i dont have any fire flow pattern for fire. I am  bit confused how give time in this situation?

    I almost half way thru as Tom's way, since, i need to complete the simulation. But, i want to do by providing peak factors in calculation demand by selecting only fixed demands to be multiplied and leaving fire demands as such.

  • Even though you're only running a steady state, you can still create and use the patterns for the purpose of differentiating the different demand types and applying the peak factor only to demands with certain associated patterns. For instance you can create a "fire" demand pattern, leaving the table of time/multiplier blank. Then, assign it to the demand entries that represent the fire demands, leaving the regular demands as "fixed". Then in the Active Demand Adjustment calculation options, apply the multiplier only to the fixed pattern.

    Tom's post talks about a different way to adjust demands (separate demand alternatives and global edits) as an alternative to using the calculation options.
