Tank Study

Hi everyone,

Here I would like to ask more about tank. Attached herewith a small network simulation model consists reservoir (Head) supply to two tank and go to customers.

Here, I would like to see how the tank operated with the data I input. For everyone information, this is EPS simulation which I already put all the information into every assets.

My question is, I have a data for level monitoring system for both tanks and I would like to compare but the result give differently from it is. I just confiused why the tank level is not acted like the data from the telemetry system.

Could somebody help me on this matter.

Thanks and regards.

  • Hello,

Usually you need to go through a model calibration exercise before you model will match your real-world data. You need to check demands, pipe connectivity, pipe roughness, initial conditions (tank levels, etc.). There is plenty of information about this process in Bentley's Advanced Water Distribution Modeling and Management book.

In your case, it looks like the reservoirs level isn't high enough to fill the tanks. You should start by investigating that.

    Mal

  • Actually I think most of the problems are because your demands are really high - e.g. 6205 L/s on node J-354.  You should double check the units.

  • HI Mal,

    Thank your explanation.

For your information, I cut this network from Synergy model which I already succes calibrate the model.

All the information was came from the Synergy nothing change.

The demands was the total from thw whole system which I cut.

I would like to see whether I could calibrate in Watergems.

In synergy they didnt has tank like Watergems.

    Thank you.

  • Hey,

Before calibrating, you need to make sure all of the data is correct. When I ran the model, there are numerous User Notifications that will need to be addressed before calibrating the model. Some of these include the following:

    - Network Unbalanced.

    - Disconnected Demand Nodes.

I would not trust the results until you have checked through all of the data and are able to Validate and Compute a complete model. Some places that I would initially look.

    - As Mal said, check the Reservoirs and Demands. These do not look right.

    - Check Pipe connectivity, I found a couple of spots that may not be correctly connected.

    - There are numerous spots where Pipes cross and there is no Junction. Please check these areas.

    - I would check the use of Check Valves in areas such as Pipe ID - 908 and 853.

    - Once the model is cleaned up, then we can look at Calibration.

  • ok dan,

I will look once again the model.

    Thanks.
