Flushing II (Pipe Run)

Hello

As photos attched, there is a ‘Flushibg’ has been defined for the network. As you see P-4 and ISO-2 is closed and water must flows from Pipe Run path (from ‘Reservoir’ to P-1 and P-2 and P-3 and then J-3). But when Event-1 is Run, ‘result Browser’ shows that ‘Pipe Length Met target’ is equal to 1000 m. It must be 600 m (=100+200+300) because P-4 is closed and pipe Run does not path through P-4. How this can be explained?

  • Hi Sim,

Thanks for sending your model and I found there is nothing wrong with with the software.

    Here's what you are doing:
You are looking at "Pipe Length Met Target (m)" field which will report the total length of pipes that meet or exceed the target specified.

So, what's the target you specified? Based on the model or the screen below it's 0 (zero).

After running the flushing, on the three pipes (P-1, P-2 and P-3) there will be a flow hence the velocity and whatever the velocity is, it'll be greater than your target of 0 m/s. Now, the forth pipe which is closed hence the velocity is 0 m/s for this pipe. Since the target is 0 m/s it meets the target. So, there are four pipes that meets the given target and total length of those four pipes is 1000 m.

If you change your target velocity from 0 to some number that make sense you will see the field "Pipe Length Met Target" value as 600 m.

Here's one thing I could not understand, what is the purpose of doing flushing with a Target velocity of 0 m/s?
