Check Out of License not working in License Management Tool

Problem Description

The description below uses WaterGEMS as an example.

When attempting to check out a license in the License Management Tool, one of the following issues occurs:

1) The program still does not activate when opening and is not usable

2) During the process of checking out the license, it appears in the bottom section of the License Checkout tab and then disappears a few moments later.

3) When trying to activate a product as a non-SELECT user on the license check out page the product name is incorrectly populated or the version number is inaccessible.

4) The License Management Tool will not open on a Windows 7 or Windows 8 machine.

Steps to Resolve

1) First, check that the same product is being used. For example if checking out a WaterCAD license, make sure you're using WaterCAD, not SewerCAD of WaterGEMS.

2) Second, reopen the License Management Tool and confirm that the checkout shows at the bottom of the License Checkout Tab. If it does not, try the following:

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Bentley > WaterGEMS.  Right-click on License Management Tool and select Run as Administrator. Try checking it out again.

b. If 'a' doesn't work: go to the install folder for WaterGEMS "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\WaterGEMS" and locate the "LicenseTool.exe" file. Right click on it and run it as an administrator. Try checking it out again.

c. If 'b' doesn't work: Uninstall and Reinstall the software using the directions from this wiki and perform the license clean up steps located at the bottom of the wiki.

Note: if the license was registered as checked out on the server side but not picked up on the client side, you may need to first check it back in from the server side per this article.

3) Confirm that the expiration date is in the future and that the version number matches what you see in the software's File>Help>About (or Help>About for V8i and below)
