Problem Description

After computing constraint based design, the following user notification appears, even though section sizes available in the Conduit Catalog. The inverts and sizes of the conduits identified by this notification do not change.

"Conduit Catalog should contain conduits that are available for design and with same Conduit Shape/Material. Set Design Conduit property to False, or add new conduits to Catalog."

Steps to Resolve

To allow the constraint based design feature to change conduit sizes and inverts, the conduits' combination of shape and material must be available in the conduit catalog. For example if you have a conduit with shape set to Circular and material set to "Concrete" and your Conduit Catalog only contains a Class with shape set to Circular but the material of "PVC", that conduit won't be designed.

This applies to conduits whose Conduit Type is initially set as Catalog Conduit as well as those initially set as User Defined. Ideally you would set all conduits to be catalog conduits so that you can select the appropriate shape, material and initial size from available catalog classes (see steps below). However, conduits initially set as User Defined can also be designed as long as their shape and material are available in at least one catalog class that is set as being available for design.

Note: this article is written for recent versions that use the Catalog Class system. For older versions, Section Size and Material fields must be updated.

If you need to change multiple conduits to Catalog Conduits, consider the below steps to global edit the conduits:

1) Open the conduit flextable and add the Conduit Type, Catalog Class, Material and Size fields if not already showing

2) Global edit the Conduit Type field and set them all to Catalog Conduit

3) Global edit the Catalog Class field and set them all to the appropriate Class

4) Global edit the Material field

5) Global edit the Size field and set them all to an initial size. The constraint based design feature will adjust the size as needed, so the size you pick here does not matter.

6) Re-compute constraint based design.
