Problem
Can WaterCAD or WaterGEMS perform a transient analysis?
Problem ID#: 56628
Solution
In order to perform a transient analysis (to analyze the pressure fluctuations due to a sudden moment change, between two steady states) you will need to use HAMMER, which is a separate product. WaterCAD and WaterGEMS can perform a steady state or EPS simulation whereas HAMMER can perform a steady state, EPS and transient simulation. A steady state is typically run first to establish the initial conditions for the transient simulation. WaterGEMS and WaterCAD include additional functionality that is not present in HAMMER, such as tools for designing and calibrating a model.
WaterCAD and WaterGEMS share the same file format though, so the WaterCAD/WaterGEMS model can be opened in HAMMER directly. The transient-related elements and attributes still show up so that you may include them while developing the model in WaterCAD or WaterGEMS for a steady state/EPS, then later open it in HAMMER.
