Overview

The SELECTseries 5 release of HAMMER V8i includes many new features and improvements. This technote explores each change.

-Support for Newer Platforms and Operating Systems
-Batch Runs in HAMMER
-New results display for pump speed and hydropneumatic tank results
-New customer element
-External Customer Meter Data manager
-Export model to notebook computers and tablets with Bentley Map Mobile
-New SCADA element

A free Webinar covering these new features is available from this link.

Support for Newer Platforms

Bentley HAMMER V8i SELECTSeries 5 now supports the following:

Note: Older platforms of MicroStation and ArcGIS may also integrate with Bentley HAMMER. These versions have not been fully certified. Bentley HAMMER should also be compatible with older versions of ProjectWise.

In addition, while Bentley HAMMER may install and work on Windows XP, the program is not certified or supported for that operating system. This is because Microsoft has also discontinued support for Windows XP as of April 2014.

Batch Run in HAMMER

New results display for pump speed and hydropneumatic tank results

In earlier versions of Bentley HAMMER, the user could find additional model results for pumps and hydropneumatic tanks in Transient Analysis Detailed Reports. Starting with HAMMER V8i SELECTseries 5, additional results are now available for pumps and hydropneumatic tanks directly in the Transient Results Viewer.

For pumps, pump speed during the transient analysis can be plotted. For hydropneumatic tanks, gas volume, gas volume, and water inflow are now reported. To view these results, open the Transient Results Viewer and select the Extended Node Data tab.

Customer Meter Element

A new Customer element has been added to HAMMER, as well as WaterGEMS and WaterCAD. This is a way for users to maintain customer water demand data within the program which provides the user access to features such as element symbology and the ability to visualize customer location and assignment of demand to node elements movements have been added to the Profile Selection tool.

This tool is present in HAMMER, but substantive data will only be available for the initial conditions. In other words, the Customer element will not be viewable in the Transient Results Viewer as profiles or time history graphs.

For more information on the Customer element, please see the “What’s New with WaterGEMS/WaterCAD V8i SELECTseries 5?” TechNote and this Webinar.

External Customer Meter Data manager

A new External Customer Meter Data manager has been added so that external source data can be added to the Customer Meter element. This allows the user to see detailed information about the location that the Customer Meter element represents. Similar to ModelBuilder, the user can select from a number of source file types, such as database files and Excel files, and import the data into the External Customer Meter Data manager. This can be important in keeping track of demand information that will be applied to the Customer Meters.

This will primary be used in WaterGEMS or WaterCAD, but is present in HAMMER. For more information on the Customer element, please see the “What’s New with WaterGEMS/WaterCAD V8i SELECTseries 5?” TechNote.

Export model to notebook computers and tablets with Bentley Map Mobile

Bentley HAMMER models can now be exported to Bentley Map Mobile for usage on notebook computers and tablets. This makes it possible to view HAMMER models on Android, iPad & iPad mini tablets; you just need to have the Bentley Map mobile application. The new tool has been introduced-Bentley Map Mobile, which publishes Map Mobile i-model, available in file export options. Even background files can be viewed but individually in the view filter list in map mobile.

This tool is beneficial for the users who don’t have Bentley software; the models can still be sent to them so that they can view the models on their Android, iPad & iPad mini tablets.

SCADA element

This element represents a real-world SCADA signal that is associated with a hydraulic element in a WaterGEMS or WaterCAD model. It is used to display both real-time and historical SCADA data as well as the difference between SCADA and model results.

This element may be present in a HAMMER model, but the SCADA data is not available for transient analysis in Bentley HAMMER.
