Problem

In HAMMER, how can I see extended details for Surge Tanks, such as the amount of inflow or outflow during a transient event?

Solution

To get extended results for a surge tank during the transient simulation, enter a number for the "report period" attribute of the surge tank. For example '10' would mean that this output information is generated every 10 timesteps. Make sure you have selected "True" for "Generate Detailed Report" in the transient calculation options, then re-run the transient simulation.

When it's done, go to Report > Transient Reports > Transient Analysis Detailed Report. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you will see a table of level, head, flow, etc., for the surge tank.

Currently there is no way to automatically generate a graph of this data. As of HAMMER V8i SELECTseries 5, results previously only found in the Detailed Report are available in the Extended Node Results tab of the Transient Results Viewer for elements like hydropneumatic tanks and pump. This is not available for surge tanks.

However, you can copy the data from this table and paste this data into an external application, like Microsoft Excel. A graph can then be generated.
