Background image quality poor on some computers or Crash when opening models with background layers

Product(s): PondPack, WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, SewerGEMS, SewerCAD, StormCAD, CivilStorm, HAMMER
Version(s): V8i, Connect Edition
Area: Layout and Data Input

Problem Description

After loading a background file, the quality of the image is very poor. This typically occurs for image files, like .TIFF and .JPG files etc.

Or

Polyline shapefile backgrounds not displaying correctly in the standalone version.

Crisscrossing lines appear when adding a Shapefile background.

Or

When trying to open some models (not all), the application crashes and closes completely without error.

If a file that doesn't have a background layer attached is opened the program crashes when attaching the background layer.

Steps to Resolve

This may be related to the video card driver on the workstation. As a quick test, trying restarting the computer on in Safe Mode and run the software. You will likely see the quality of the image will be improved. This is because the computer will use a generic video card driver. You can also test this on a new machine.

If you use both integrated video (such as "Intel HD") as well as a discrete video card, check your video card control panel software (typically found in your system tray in the lower right corner) to ensure that your Bentley product is set to use the discrete video hardware. See more details in the below article.

Also, download and install the latest video card driver from the manufacturer's website.
