Errors installing patch set

Problem

When attempting to install a cumulative patch set, the following error displays:

"Cannot create output file: ..."

Or

A message is generated that says that the version of the product and patch do not match.

Solution

1. Make sure that the patch set version number matches the version number of the product you are trying to apply it to.

For the second error, this occurs when the patch you are installing was created for a build of the product that is different from the one that is installed on the workstation. Make sure that the product version for the patch matches the product, using above link.

2. Make sure the product being patched, and any integrated applications (AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcMap) are closed before running the patch set installation.

3. Run the patch set installation as an administrator, especially if it is installed on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating system. To do this, just right-click on the patch installation file and select "Run as administrator".
