How can you model 2 grates above one structure? For example barrier separated grates where the existing structures on a highway are located in the median and collect flows from both sides of the highway. The median has a concrete barrier which separates flows from either side. Therefore, rather than putting in 2 structures, there is one big structure that has a grate inlet on both sides of the median barrier.
Another example would be a structure that has a curb inlet on the road-side and a grate inlet on the back side as described here.
A typical approach would be to use a small connector pipe between two catchbasin nodes.
A large diameter, short length conduit (with a slight slope) can be used to connect the catchbasins, so as not to have a hydraulic effect. The structure loss method for the second grate (Grate 2 in the example below) can be set to Absolute with a headloss of zero.
