Problem

How can I inject a certain flow rate or specific hydrograph into a certain point in the model? For example I have a hydrograph from another program that I want to insert.

Solution - CivilStorm and SewerGEMS

The following steps apply to CivilStorm and SewerGEMS, when using the Implicit, Explicit or GVF-Convex numerical solver:

User defined inflow hydrograph approach

1) In the properties of a cross section, catchbasin or manhole node, expand the "inflow collection" by clicking the ellipsis button (...)

2) Add a new item, choose the hydrograph option

3) Paste in (or manually enter) the flow over time. If pasting from another source, first confirm that the units match, then click the first cell and press CTRL+V to paste. Check the first and last row to make sure an extra duplicate row did not paste in, and remove if needed by clicking on it and choosing the delete option.

4) Click OK. The program will now route this hydrograph into the respective element.

Catchment approach

1) Lay out a catchment polygon element to represent the inflow. If needed, you can hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard, then click and move your mouse to lay out a pentagon shape.

2) In the properties of the catchment, select "User Defined Hydrograph" as the "Runoff Method".

3) In the "Runoff Hydrographs" field, click the ellipsis button (...) and enter (or paste) your time vs. flow table (check units).

4) Click OK. The program will now route this hydrograph into the chosen "outflow element".

Solution - PondPack

The following steps apply to PondPack CONNECT Edition or V8i:

1) First, add your user defined hydrograph under Components > Hydrographs > Hydrographs. If unsure, click New > New Hydrograph, enter the start, end and increment, then populate the table of time vs. flow. Provide a label on the left side.

2) Layout a catchment polygon element. Use the click and move the mouse to lay out a simple pentagon shape if needed or hold down CTRL then left click once and drag the mouse to create a perfect pentagon shape.

3) In the properties of the catchment, select the element you want the flow to be inserted into from the Outflow Node field.

4) Select User Defined Hydrograph from the Runoff Method dropdown.

5) Click the dropdown next to Runoff Method and select the user defined hydrograph created in step 1.
