Pipes missing after ModelBuilder import using geometric network with complex edges, what should be key field?

  Product(s): WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, HAMMER
  Version(s): 08.11.XX.XX, 10.XX.XX.XX
  Area: Layout and Data Input

Problem

Not all my pipes are imported from Modelbuilder, when using a geometric network with complex edges as the data source type.

When importing a geometric network with complex edges in Modelbuilder, what should I choose as the key field?

Problem ID#: 61349

Solution

When using Geometric Network as the data source type in Modelbuilder, one or more layers can contain "complex edges". A complex edge contains multiple segments, each referencing the same OBJECTID.

So, make sure you choose either '<id>' or '<label>' for the key field in the field mapping step of Modelbuilder. These special fields contain a unique ID for each individual segment of the complex edge.

Otherwise, if you select a different field such as OBJECTID, complex edges with multiple segments will not import correctly because they won't have a unique ID, If is possible that these will have the same ObjectID when you view these in the Preview.

In the Modelbuilder summary window, the Messages tab will indicate if any elements could not be imported due to having a duplicate key (ID).
