The "merge pipes" feature in Skelebrator is not working for pipes thatare listed with zero diameter in Properties. Is there a way around thisissue?Product: WaterGEMS V8iVersion: 08.11.01.32Area: Modeling, Problem ID#: 51469, PROBLEMSOLVINGSee Also: WaterCAD V8i, V8 XM, Skelebrator
The following steps should help with the issue. It involves creating aselection set of protected elements that Skelebrator will not merge.First, create a Query to locate only the zero inch diameter pipes.Select these in the drawing, then right-click and choose Create Selection Set. Next, with the selection set still highlighted on the drawing pane, go to View > Network Navigator. Choose the “>button, then go to Network Trace > Find Adjacent Nodes. This willhighlight the nodes adjacent to the zero diameter pipes as well as thepipes. Right-click in the drawing pane and select “Add to SelectionSet. Make sure the selection set is still highlighted, and return tothe Network Navigator and choose Network Trace > Find Adjacent Links. This will highlight the pipes to the zero diameter pipes. Again,right-click in the drawing pane and select “Add to Selection Set. Nowall zero diameter pipes, as well as the adjacent pipes and nodes will behighlighted in the drawing pane.Next, go do Edit > Invert Selection. Now, everything else in the modelwill be selected instead. Once more, right-click in the drawing pane. This time, choose “Create Selection Set. These will be the items youwill protect in Skelebrator. Now, open Skelebratator and highlight Default Skelebrator Group. Go tothe Protected Elements tab and choose the “Select from Drawing icon inthe upper right. This will open a Select bar. Choose the Query icon andchoose the selection set created of the protected elements (the lastselection set created above). Now create a new Series Pipe MergingSkelebrator run. Don’t worry about adding anything in the Conditionstab. In the Settings tab, uncheck the “Use Equivalent Pipes? selection.Compute Skelebrator. When this was done on a sample model, it appeared to merged the zerodiameter pipes with the adjacent pipes. You will want to be careful andreview the diameters in the pipe properties, to make certain that thediameters are correct. If you have series of pipes with differentdiameters (for instance, 8 inch connected to 0 inch connected to 10inch), the program may not choose the diameter you want or expect it tochoose.
