Problem

Is it possible to export a selection set of elements into a Shapefile?

Problem ID#: 63878

Solution

It is possible export a selection set of elements to a shapefile. To do this, make sure that you have all of the elements in a selection set. Once this is done, go to the selection set manager (View > Selection Sets), then either double click on the selection set of elements you want to export or right-click and choose "Select in Drawing." The elements will now be highlighted on the drawing pane.

Next, with the elements still highlighted in the drawing, right-click in the drawing pane and choose "Edit Group". This will open a flex-table selection dialog. Choose the element type. A flex-table will open containing just the elements of that type in the selection set. From here, you can export the data to a shapefile by selecting the "Export to File" icon in the upper left of the flex-table. If there is more than one element type in the selection set, you will need to export each element type separately.

Note: If you wish to build a separate model out of the exported elements then you can import the created shapefiles via ModelBuilder to re-create a model of the selection set.
