Calculated results in ProjectWise

Product(s): WaterGEMS, WaterCAD, HAMMER, StormCAD, SewerCAD, SewerGEMS, CivilStorm, PondPack
  Version(s): 08.11.XX.XX
  Environment: N\A
  Area: Output and Reporting

Problem

After computing a model and saving the changes to ProjectWise, the next user who opens that model does not see the results.

Background

This is expected behavior (as of the versions available in early January 2016.) The output files (results) will only save locally and will not be uploaded and checked into ProjectWise as part of the File Set.

This is due in part because of the size of these files. For large models, these files can sometimes be very large (multiple Gigabytes in some cases) and would not be reasonable to store in ProjectWise. It could potentially take longer to upload/download than it would to re-compute.

Enhancement Request #355857 has been filed for us to investigate improvements in a future to perhaps allow the option to save results to ProjectWise if desired.

Workaround

In the meantime, the following workaround can be used to store output files in ProjectWise:

On the first computer (where the model is first computed and results saved)

1) Open the model from ProjectWise

2) Compute the model and save it.

3) With the model still open (and checked out), open ProjectWise Explorer, browse out to the folder where the model is stored, click on one of the files (for example the .WTG for a WaterGEMS model) and note the "Local File Directory" shown in the Document Properties.

4) Close the model and check it in.

5) Browse to the local directory that you noted in step 3. This is the working directory on your local computer where files are stored as you're working on them. It usually has a randomly generated folder label such as "dms12345". You should see all of the output files that store results for your model. Depending on the product you're using and the type of analysis, there are a multitude of different file extensions. For example for WaterGEMS, see the help topic "Working with WaterGEMS V8i Files" for a list. For a basic WaterGEMS model, the main hydraulic results are in the .RPC and .OUT files. Each scenario will have its own set of output files.

6) Select all of the output files for your model and drag them into the folder in ProjectWise explorer where the model is stored. As mentioned in step 5, there are a number of different file extensions. Basically everything except for the main model files, which have the extensions of .WTG, .WTG.SQLITE and .WTG.DWH (for WaterGEMS, WaterCAD and HAMMER) or .STSW, .STSW.SQLITE and .STSW.DWH (for StormCAD, SewerCAD, SewerGEMS and CivilStorm).

On the second computer
(where the second user opens the model and wants to see the previously saved results)

1) Open ProjectWise Explorer, browse to the folder where the model is stored and locate the output files

2) Select all of the output files (use CTRL and/or Shift to multi-select), then right click on one and chose "copy out". This should copy the output files to the local working directory so that the program can read them when the model is opened.

3) Open the Bentley product and open the model file from ProjectWise. It should read the output files that were copied over from step 2 and display the pre-calculated results.

NOTE: if this does not work, try steps 1 and 2 again (after the file has been opened once and checked out/in, generating the working directory)
